I wanted to do something different with this barricade. Rather than make the barricade out of block-like sections (e.g., wood, styrofoam board), I built a metal structure and attached mats to it, exactly like the barricade in real life.
It is very sturdy yet play-friendly: the horizontal bars magnetically snap on to the vertical posts, allowing for quick and easy set up and take down.
Magnets were also ideal for making three break-away sections.
Another notable feature is that you can peel the protective foam off the top of the barricade to expose the metal structure underneath.
Overall, I’m not sure how much better or more realistic a model barricade can get. If you want to make one of your own, feel free to contact me for any troubleshooting questions you might have. More details about the building process can be found on the Facebook Page for Incomparable Customs.
